I will sponsor the seventh annual Amundson Institute. Former Delegate Kris Amundson began this program in partnership with Cox Communications as an opportunity for our high school juniors and seniors. Four students will come to Richmond for 2 days (Jan. 30-31) and observe the General Assembly at work.
They will meet with leaders in state government, including legislators, lobbyists, and members of the Governor's administration. The program is an excellent chance for students to learn how state government works first-hand. The program is open to juniors and seniors who live or attend a High School school in the 44th District.
Each student will also complete a project where they will identify a shortcoming in the Code of Virginia and propose legislation to fix the law. You may be interviewed about your experience.
We will be working with several sponsors so that there will be no cost for the students for the program. However, it is recommended the children bring some money for personal incidental expenses.
Delegate Amundson created this program in 2000 and many Mount Vernon area high school students have participated. In the past, this program has had fantastic groups of student leaders and I'm looking forward to meeting more of the 44th District's high school leaders.
All applications must be turned in by November 30, 2016.
